Story Review : "The Gruffalo" by Julia Donaldson

Gruffalo...Oh, Gruffalo! What kind are you actually...? All readers might be wondered what the name of "Gruffalo" is because they never heard it before.

"The Gruffalo" story written by Julia Donaldson is very unique. It is about little tiny mouse decides to explore the deep, dark forest. As he meets with a variety of predators, he deceives all of them by telling them about a monster he has named the Gruffalo. As he meets a fox, an owl and a snake, he manages to convince them that they do not have time to eat him, because a huge ugly and scary monster is lurking in the woods, ready to eat them. Terrified, they hurry away. But, of course, the Gruffalo is just only mouse's imagination, but really exists in the wood and tries to eat mouse. What will happen next? Does the mouse still survive or die when he meets the Gruffalo?

The title of this story itself is ironically interesting. I also feel curious what kind of this animal is. Is it the combination of animals names, giraffe and buffalo? Well, I think some kind of like that. The author of this story brilliantly make children feel curious to read the story. Children will think deeply on what kind of that creature in the story. Besides, children really like to know the thing that they never see or think before.

The author portrays the character of little mouse as a brave and brilliant character. He cleverly deceives all the  predators who want to eat him by telling them about the imaginary creature, the Gruffalo and they do believe what the mouse has told to them. Believe or not, the Gruffalo does really exist.  When he meets the Gruffalo, once again he deceives the Gruffalo by using his clever brain to avoid from being eaten by the Gruffalo. It shows that even the mouse is a tiny mouse, but he uses his brain to solve the problems. The character of mouse can be associated with children as innocent, timid and fragile. This story possibly teaches the children need to think rationally and calmly when they are facing problems in life. Whatever the problems they faced, they have to think before making the right decision. Think before act! As a reader, I think that the author of this story successfully puts some good values within the story but, the weakness in the story is it also tells about the lies against the truth. For example, the mouse tells lies to all the enemies and successfully run away from them. However, it is still good for children to read this story. It is really fun and enjoy. Children will never  regret by reading it. I can guarantee that...
